After watching just a few short YouTube vids, you can be on your way to knowing how to collect passwords on a network, capture logins for websites, or breaking through wireless security protocols. Of course, you will only be doing this on your own networks, and not public ones… right?</span></div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Download from <a href="http://oxid.it/" style="background: transparent; border: 0px; color: #0d85cc; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank" title="Developers of Cain and Abel">Tool Developers!</a></div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Cain and Abel (often abbreviated to Cain) is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Windows, produced independently of Microsoft. It can recover many kinds of passwords using methods such as network packet sniffing, cracking various password hashes by using methods such as dictionary attacks, brute force and cryptanalysis attacks. Cryptanalysis attacks are done via rainbow tables which can be generated with the winrtgen.exe program provided with Cain and Abel. Cain and Abel is maintained by Massimiliano Montoro and Sean Babcock.</div><div class="youtube" style="background: transparent; border: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="background: transparent; border: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Status with virus scanners</strong></div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Some virus scanners (and browsers, e.g. Chrome 20.0.1132.47) detect Cain and Abel as malware.</div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; float: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><ins id="aswift_0_expand" style="background: transparent; border: none; display: inline-table; height: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; visibility: visible; width: 728px;"><ins id="aswift_0_anchor" style="-webkit-transition: opacity 1s cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 1, 1), width 0.1s cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 1, 1) 0.4s, height 0.5s cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 1, 1); background: transparent; border: none; display: block; height: 0px; margin: 0px; opacity: 0; overflow: hidden; padding: 0px; position: relative; text-decoration: none; transition: opacity 1s cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 1, 1), width 0.1s cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 1, 1) 0.4s, height 0.5s cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 1, 1); vertical-align: baseline; visibility: visible; width: 728px;"><iframe allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="90" hspace="0" id="aswift_0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" name="aswift_0" scrolling="no" style="background: transparent; border-style: initial; border-width: 0px; left: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; position: absolute; top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" vspace="0" width="728"></iframe></ins></ins></div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Avast! detects it as “Win32:Cain-B” and classifies it as “Other potentially dangerous program”, while Microsoft Security Essentials detects it as “Win32/Cain!4_9_14″ and classifies it as “Tool: This program has potentially unwanted behavior.” Even if Cain’s install directory, as well as the word “Cain”, are added to Avast’s exclude list, the real-time scanner has been known to stop Cain from functioning. However, the latest version of Avast no longer blocks Cain.</div><div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Montoro, the owner of oxid.it and maintainer of Cain and Abel, has stated that his programs do not contain malware or backdoors. Well, Yeah!!! </span><span style="line-height: 20.0004997253418px;">Penetration testing, commonly called as pen-testing is a on a roll in the testing circle these days. The reason is not hard to guess – with the change in the way computer systems are used and built, security takes the center stage. Even though companies realize they can’t make every system 100% secure, they are extremely interested to know exactly what kind of security issues they are dealing with. That’s where Pen-testing comes handy with its use of ethical hacking techniques.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><em style="line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Let us now quickly see:</em></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3846em; line-height: 1.1111em;">What is Penetration Testing?</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;">It’s the method of testing where the areas of weakness in software systems in terms of security are put to test to determine, if ‘weak-point’ is indeed one, that can be broken into or not.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><b style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Performed for</b>: Websites/Servers/Networks</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">How is it performed?</strong></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Step #1.</strong> It starts with a list of Vulnerabilities/potential problem areas that would cause a security breach for the systems.<br style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Step #2. </strong>If possible, this list of items has to be ranked in the order of priority/criticality<br style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Step #3. </strong>Devise penetration tests that would work (attack your system) from both within the network and outside (externally) to determine if you can access data/network/server/website unauthorized.<br style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Step #4. </strong>If the unauthorized access is possible, the system has to be corrected and the series of steps need to be re-run until the problem area is fixed.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;"><b style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Who performs Pen-testing?</b></span><br style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />Testers/ Network specialists/ Security Consultants</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><b style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Note:</b> it is important to note that pen-testing is not the same as vulnerability testing. This is because; by definition pen-testing is exploiting the weak spots. So there are some software/tools that will show you the weak spots, some that show and attack. Literally speaking, the ‘show-ers’ are not pen-testing tools but they are inevitable for its success.</div><h3 style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3846em; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.1111em; margin: 1.6667em 0px 0.5556em; padding: 0px;">Top 20 Penetration Testing Tools</h3><h3 style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3846em; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.1111em; margin: 1.6667em 0px 0.5556em; padding: 0px;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">1) <span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;">Metasploit</span> </strong></h3><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;"><a href="http://cdn.softwaretestinghelp.com/wp-content/qa/uploads/2013/11/Metasploit-pentesting-tool.jpg" style="border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-color: rgb(187, 187, 187); color: #777777; margin: 0px; padding: 1px 0px; text-decoration: none;"><img alt="Metasploit pentesting tool" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2824" height="44" src="http://cdn.softwaretestinghelp.com/wp-content/qa/uploads/2013/11/Metasploit-pentesting-tool.jpg" style="border: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" width="187" /></a></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.0004997253418px; margin-bottom: 1.5385em; padding: 0px;">This is the most advanced and popular Framework that can be used to for pen-testing.
